#FallWritingFrenzy . . . WEE GHOSTIE!

The annual writing contests organized by Lydia Lukidis and Kaitlyn Sanchez are such a creativity boost! You simply choose a photo and let it inspire you for #FalllWritingFrenzy.

Among the photos I spotted a spooky, rain-slicked stone lane in the last of the sun’s rays. It reminded me of a place I’ve yet to go — Scotland — and it reminded me of a rainy Sunday afternoon we spent in the Cotswolds a few years ago, a part of England with rolling hills and charming villages.

When my family and I visited the Cotswolds it was a rainy October day. One of us had developed a cold, so we declared it a day off from being tourists. Instead we had Sunday roast in a cozy  pub where neighborhood dogs stopped by for a pat on the head and, if they were lucky, a treat from the pub’s proprietor. It was exactly the kind of village where a wee ghostie might appear . . . .

As with all good ghost stories, this one is best read aloud.

A grey rain-slick stone lane with stone buildings just after sunset. In the far house is one orange light.

WEE GHOSTIE

By Lisa Lowe Stauffer

One night I saw a wee ghostie flying down the lane on a skateboard!

Boo!

He was a wee coasty ghostie.

While wearing a warm sweater.

Boo!

He was a wee coasty toasty ghostie

One night I saw a wee ghostie flying down the lane on a skateboard

While wearing a warm sweater.

He was bragging, just a bit.

Boo!

He was a wee coasty toasty boasty ghostie

One night I saw a wee ghostie flying down the lane on a skateboard

While wearing a warm sweater.

He was bragging, just a bit.

About the delicious meal his mum had made.

Boo!

He was a wee coasty toasty boasty Sunday-roasty ghostie

Boo!

“Boo!” I replied

And now he’s

A wee coasty toasty boasty Sunday-roasty . . . bestie ghostie!

  1. Cute story with a Wonky Donkey vibe. I loved your backstory and want to take a trip (minus the head cold!).
