Incredibly Cool Critters: Iguanas in Trees

Large iguana in a tamarind tree. His head is orange, his body blue-grey, and his long tail is striped.

One of my favorite critters in Costa Rica is the iguana. Every one is unique in size, colors, and what I like to call “accessories,” like the spines on (some of) their backs. This fellow is exceptionally beautiful — no, the photo is not enhanced at all. Yes, this iguana really is THAT colorful!

Also this iguana is about 40 feet off the ground, sunning himself in a tamarind tree. For my critique partners, you’ll recognize him as one of the star players in a picture book manuscript I’ve been working on.
